Bio| Andrea Marchegiani is a photographer and blogger based in Rome. He studied screenplay writing and Cinema at DAMS University, and graduated with a dissertation about the road movie film genre. He continued his studies attending photography, shooting and video editing courses. Meanwhile, he experiments in various creative fields, as an actor, author and theater director as well as a screenwriter. In 2008, he founded his own photo studio, Sfero Productions. A deep interest in foreign peoples and cultures leads him to visit destinations unknown to mass tourism: Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, China, Nepal, Ethiopia, Botswana … His photographs have been included in various exhibitions and published on national magazines. His passion for photography and his love for writing come together in his travel blog (only in Italian at the moment. An English version is coming soon!).

MORE ABOUT ME

Traveler| I am not the classic type of social media traveler who’s always looking for risky experiences. I’m no adrenaline junkie and I am not always looking forwards to putting another tick on the world map. I am rather introspective. I need courage and momentum everytime I take a new trip. As I hold a plane ticket I know I’m accepting a challenge. I’m opening the door to change. There are a thousand different versions of me waiting to come to light. And a thousand places I haven’t visited yet where I could feel at home.

Photographer| I am a professional photographer. I never thought of becoming one, but, as a kid, I was always holding a camera. I am not looking for perfect shots, I am not interested in having a front cover. I strive for moments of intimacy hidden in the folds of reality. I am patiently waiting to catch some happiness in the eyes of a child, or a gesture of kindness between strangers; I find so much beauty in the wrinkles of a tired face and so much bliss in a landscape. If life did not have a deeper meaning, photography would have no reason to exist.

Blogger| I think we should share our experiences. That’s why I built a travel photography website in the first place. I had just come back from Ethiopia and I was looking at some shots I took there. Some of them were just so intense I felt they belonged to the world. I also wrote down a few notes on the side, so that I would not forget the details. Note after note, line after line, I ended up having a travel blog as well. I have a degree in film and screenplay, so I find writing easy. My travel blog grew really quickly, kind of unintentionally. People started reading it and commenting on facebook. Some magazines asked me to publish my photos and stories and that gave me the courage to make my work more organic.

Travel Storyteller| I never intended this to be a place for people to find where to stay for less, or to suggest the ideal holiday destination or the best travel itineraries. This site was created to remind myself and those who want to approach my work that traveling is about being curious and experiencing emotions, discovering different lifestyles and imagining new paths for ourselves. We are what we think we are and traveling forces us to rethink everything in new terms. If you are curious to read and look at the world through my eyes, consider yourself my friend. Thanks.
